Blood and bones trailer analysis

Blood And Bones Movie Trailer Analysis:

Mise en scene: the movie takes place in los Angeles, where underground fights take place, and are being held, one night after involving a match with the local champion called Hammer man, bone makes a deal with the promoter pinball to set up a fight with him and the champion and beats the hammer man. the movie itself has a street dark atmosphere to it. It includes tons of fights under the counter where bets and gambling is involved, for this reason the movie has a dark, eery atmosphere to it and shows the dangers of what can happen if you lead a life of crime and where it can lead. and it also has a lot of city scenery, for example the cars and the street fighters, all dictate life in the city and the dangers as well as the good things in the city. it also shows graffiti and a lot of gang crime, for example in one scene Roberto has to tell some drug dealers dealing in his neighborhood to leave the place, it connotes that a lot of danger has befallen near the protagonist.

What we find out about the plot: In the movie we find out a lot about the plot, for example the main protagonist is some kind of martial artist/fighter, he went to prison for a short time. He moves to los Angeles for a while and was friends with a inmate in prison, who went by the name of Danny, who is the female protagonist's husband, however was murdered by JC and his crew. we find out that bone is actually a good guy and despite going into prison for a while he is not like the other violent, volatile criminals which he was around for a certain period of time. the main plot basically revolves around bone getting back Angela her kid, whom she had to give up for adoption a long time ago, as well as making money, so that he could begin the next journey after the events of the movie, as well as getting rid of Angela's drug addiction, he mainly did this to repay Danny his friend in prison.

we also see bone's skills as a fighter, his first underground fight in the movie, and he knocks out another opponent with just two kicks, he uses his skills to survive in the movie and beat the gangster James at his own game. The plot gradually develops in the movie, where bone sees the people he loves get killed, people he even just met, this shows that he is perhaps not meant to be around people, and also shows that his strength of character as he still stays true to his morals.

Camera shots/composition: within the movie blood and bone we see a lot of different camera shots and angles all of which were used to make the movie more effective and fun, some include the facial expression of bones face as he defeated hammer man, the undefeated underground fighter, more shots include over the shoulder shots of bone vs. James in the finale fight which ensues due to bone having gotten on James nasty side in recent events, and being hostile to one another, as well as James being the main antagonist anyway. Another camera shot is a mid shot of bone as he is talking to pinball about making a deal with him 40/60 or 20/80 if pinball doesn't use his own money in defeating the fighters. These shots are effective because while showing the background story of bone it also shows different parts of bones character simply through the facial expressions he makes, for example we can tell if he is angry, at ease or a combination.

another shot is when bone is seen at the end walking into the distance and a quote from Genghis khan is shown on the screen "I am the punishment of god, and if you had not committed such sins god would not have sent a punishment like me upon you". it shows a far shot of bone walking into the distance. This is effective because it shows a good shot of bone and portrays him as a once-in-a-blue-moon lone warrior of sorts.

Sound: Within the movie blood and bone several sound effects are used. This is mainly due to the fact that this is a action/fighting movie and so there are a variety of weapons and noises. For example when bone is seen fighting with James towards the end of the film, we hear the subtle but deadly slice of the katana, and the noise of James arm being cut off with a scream of pain in the distance afterwards. This is effective as it is diegetic sound, and mainly uses the similar sound patterns as other movies, but with more variation. We also hear some non-diegetic sound, such as first title credit in which bone punches the screen it plays well with the whole theme of the film with the fighting and prison scene.

Editing: within the movie there is also several editing scenes as well, for example in one scene there is a fast paced scene, where James gets his arm cut off, it quickly flicks to bone's bemused expression in which he says "I'll see you later". and we see more fast-paced action when bone has a shootout in a club and James sends his henchmen after him, and we see quick flash editing where bones hand switches to get the gun, and we see him rapidly shoot and kill all of James men, this is very well done and effective.
