Man of Steel Analysis Trailer

Man Of Steel Trailer Analysis

Overview:  Man of steel is a superhero film directed by Zack Snyder, based on the world-renowned and legendary comic book character superhero superman. It was also written by David . s. goyer, and stars very famous and great actors, such as henry cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane lane to name but a few. The story generally revolves around a reboot, so its not directly connected to the previous movie superman returns, it centres around superman's origin story, how he came to be of earth, what it is like growing up on earth with all these amazing powers at his disposal, and the choices he must make, which inevitably determine the fate of the entire planet.

Mise En Scene: Man of steel is based in the fictional city metropolis, Metropolis is said to be based around new York city and what the environment is like during the daytime. While its sister city, Gotham city, is based around New York at night-time. the scenery and the graphics in man of steel are amazing, the scenery is hugely realistic and futuristic, during certain scenes within the movie, it shows a spaceship- which is meant to resemble the one which Clark was sent to earth on as a boy, ever since then, he has been wondering around the earth wondering about his origins, how he came to be and why he came to be. During another scene in man of steel, we see Clark kents home, on a farm, this scenery is done beautifully and effectively as Clark, within the movie we know from the comics lives on a farm, and we see the different props, such as cows, and barnyard animals, this comes into contact with clarks personality, in which he is well known for being a 'boy scout'. and this comes into touch with him being a particularly benevolent character. The scenery generally is done well within the movie, and is highly effective,

Within the movie, we also see how the stage is arranged, and how the characters suits, are made and how they are they are able to do such things such as being able to fly, Zack the director did all this by going sperlunking with henry cavill and generally attaching some ropes to him and sending him falling, feet first at huge heights, this was to prepare him physically for the role of superman, and to get used to what it is like flying at those speeds. The scenery also included showing views of the planet, this comes into the fact that superman is a alien, and so showing intergalactic scenery is appropriate, this was well done as it made the audience feel as if they were actually flying themselves.

Camera shots/composition Within the movie of man of steel there is a huge array of camera shots and composition, for example when the credits are first introduced we see close shot facial expressions of Lara- (clarks mother), and her joy at Clark being born, however seconds later this is changed to fear at their planet about to witness its destruction. This is done very effectively and well, as I thought that it stayed true to the comics. we also see more camera shots, such as when Clark is having a conversation with his adopted father Jonathan Kent, and we see his disarray expressions, due to being treated like a little kid. we see over the shoulder shots as well, when he is next to Jonathan. This is done effectively, however there were mostly facial expression shots during the first half of the movie, the second half had much more action to it, for example during the battle with the rogue kryptonians, we see very fast hand to hand combat action. we also see several over the shoulder shots between faora and Clark. This is done very well, as viewers complained that the previous movie superman returns did not have enough action, however this as certainly not a problem in this movie, as it had plentiful action.

Sound: During the movie we see a lot of synchronous sound, because most of the sound effects, such as the heat vision, and superman punching buildings, links in with what is actually taking place on screen. There is mostly diegetic sound and non-diegetic sound, it was done well, Hans zimmer composed many of the themes and music made in the movie, such as look to the stars, and clarks birth, he also altered the superman theme for man of steel specially and it is quite different to the world famous superman theme.

Editing: within the movie there is a lot of fast-paced editing, notably within the battle scenes especially the final battle, which consists superman going at it with zod, in a mighty battle, we see very powerful hand to hand by superman who smashes buildings as if they were paper, we see match on action, and shots with superman clenching his fist then faoras facial expression as she gets sent flying through several buildings.

What we generally find out about the story/plot: generally Within the movie we find out that Superman, the protagonist is essentially a god with amazing given powers, which most people could barely even imagine about, the story is essentially about a god trying to live among mortals, and the trials he must face to either do the right thing and 'stand proud among the human race' or not. He comes into confrontation with his power and that with great power come great responsibility.
